Philanthropic Grants

What We Fund

Support is provided in the form of programs, projects and general operating.

The Foundation accepts requests from 501(c)3 public nonprofit organizations only.

At minimum, nonprofits requesting support from the Foundation must:

  • Be a 501(c)3 public nonprofit charity as sanctioned by the IRS;
  • Must serve the communities in the following Ohio counties: Allen, Champaign, Clark, Delaware, Franklin, Logan, Marion, Montgomery, Shelby and Union.
  • Have a non-discrimination policy in place.

Honda of America Foundation will consider requests from organizations that address or support:

  • Food and Shelter – foodbanks, food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, other forms of food distribution and housing programs for those in need
  • Care Centers – enrichment programs and camps, residential support programs
  • Addiction / Substance Abuse – recovery programs, residential support programs

Only complete grant applications submitted online within the application window will be considered.

What We Do Not Fund

  • Organizations that are not 501(c)3 public charities
  • Programs and projects based outside of the state of Ohio
  • Individuals, for any purpose (e.g. hardship assistance, illness, scholarships)
  • Political or lobbying organizations and/or membership, candidates, committees, or organizations
  • Athletics, teams, sporting events or tournaments of any kind
  • Fraternal, labor or social organizations
  • Churches and religious sectarian organizations, with the exception of those that have an outreach program that benefits the whole community
  • Non-academic educational activities such as bands, choirs, proms, after-proms, graduations, etc.
  • Individual K-12 schools and public service agencies such as police and fire departments
  • Organizations that spend more than 20% of their revenue on overhead and fundraising costs
  • Organizations that discriminate against people on the basis of age, race, creed, gender, handicap, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or national origin
  • Staff positions for government agencies
  • Requests to fund publications, or audio or video productions, unless they serve as supporting materials to a project within our focus
  • Requests to support travel for groups or individuals when that is the primary reason for the proposal
  • Faxed, mailed or emailed requests will not be considered

FAQ

What type of support do you provide?
The Honda of America Foundation provides financial grants that support programs and projects that sustain our communities (food/shelter) and enhance the quality of life (care centers and addiction/substance abuse).

How does my organization apply for financial support?
Before submitting an application via our online application portal, please review the Giving Guidelines to assess whether your organization meets our criteria. After reviewing our guidelines, have your charitable tax ID/EIN number ready to submit your request via the application portal.

When is the grant submission window open?
Honda of America Foundation’s grant application window is open September 1 – November 30 each year.

When will I be notified of the results of my request?
Organizations will be notified of the funding decision in April the following year.

Can my organization apply for more than one grant?
Only one application per organization will be considered.

Can my organization request support from the Honda of America Foundation and Honda of America Mfg.’s Corporate Contributions Program?
The Honda of America Foundation and Honda of America Mfg.’s Corporate Contributions support different initiatives. Therefore, organizations are encouraged to determine the focus area that aligns with their request and submit through the proper channel.

Grant Application – Step 1 (Process and Timing)

Requests for 2021 grant support must be submitted between September 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020.

Please ensure that all sections of the grant application are complete.
Organizations will be notified of the funding decision by April 15, 2021.

Grant Application – Step 2 (Supporting Documentation)

If your organization meets our eligibility criteria, you will need the following materials in order to complete the grant application:

  • Organization’s Charitable Tax ID/EIN Number
  • List of Board Members
  • Signed Statement of Non-Discrimination – click here to access a blank Statement of Non-Discrimination
  • Most recent Form 990 filed with the IRS
  • Current Organization Operating Budget
  • Most recent Audit – if not available, you will need to provide the last two years Balance Sheet and Income Statements
  • Budget related to grant request
  • List of funders from whom you have submitted a request and the status

Grant Application – Step 3 (Applying for a Grant)

The grant request window for 2021 funding is currently open until November 30, 2020.

Grant requests submitted through this website will only be considered by the Honda of America Foundation in Ohio; not other Honda affiliates.

After you submit a completed application, you’ll receive an email confirming your grant submission. If you don’t receive this email in response to your submission, please email us at grants@ham.honda.com to verify that your grant application was received.

Organizations will be notified of the funding decision by April 15, 2021.
