Honda in the Community

With the beginning of spring comes a very busy time for Honda of America, Mfg. and many of the great community events that we support. Below are just a few of the amazing activates happening in our communities.

At the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, top seniors and educators in the community were recognized for making a difference in education. The center also hosted the Second Harvest Food Bank’s Empty Bowls event which raises awareness about hunger issues and food insecurities in Clark, Logan and Champaign counties. Culinary students from Ohio Hi-Point prepared the meals for all guests.

A dinner and silent auction at the 2016 Healing Jar Gala annual event raised funds for health care services for residents in Miami County. The Health Partners Free Clinic operates a health clinic for the uninsured and under-insured families in the county.

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Central Ohio Chapter (NCBWCOC) hosted the 2016 Trailblazer Award and Scholarship Luncheon which benefits the NCBWCOC scholarship fund and recognizes women who inspire and uplift. Attendees enjoyed remarks from Trailblazer honoree, Dr. Barbara-Ross Lee and 2016 Champion Award honoree, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty.

Five were honored at the Democracy in Action Awards, hosted by the League of Women’s Voters of Metropolitan Columbus. This was the 25th anniversary of the awards. The league encourages informed and active participation in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues while influencing public policy through education and advocacy.

Our friends at Tolles Career and Technical Center hosted the Invention Convention which enhances student performance in Ohio’s Learning Standards in math, science, and language arts to increase the interest of Ohio’s students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) careers. HondaGO volunteers were on hand to judge student presentations.

Our own HondaGO volunteers partnered with Rebuilding Together to refurbish houses in Dayton and Columbus in early May. Volunteers had a great time completing landscaping, painting, cleaning, carpentry, plumbing and electrical projects. The houses were selected by Rebuilding Together, which brings volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of those in need.

Honda is proud to support and sponsor all of these events and worthy causes.
