Philanthropic Grants

​Since 1979, Honda of America has contributed more than $58 million in charitable support to fund community-based projects in our Ohio communities. Combined with associate donations and in-kind donations of products and services, Honda’s charitable impact in Ohio now exceeds $96 million.

We provide monetary support to 501(c)(3) public charities that fit within our philanthropic focus. Priority is given to those projects that:

Grant Application – Step 1 (Eligibility)

​Before you apply, please review the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Requesting organization must be a 501(c)(3) public charity under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
  2. Requesting organization must serve the communities in the following Ohio counties: Allen, Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Delaware, Franklin, Greene, Hardin, Logan, Madison, Marion, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby, Union and Van Wert.
  3. Honda does not make philanthropic grants to the following:
  • Organizations that are not public charities— tax-exempt under paragraph 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code
  • Organizations based outside of the state of Ohio
  • Individuals, for any purpose (e.g. scholarships, hardships assistance)
  • Lobbying organizations and memberships
  • Athletics, sporting events or tournaments of any kind
  • Other considerations

Honda is a strong supporter of local United Way agencies and we direct significant financial support to these agencies through our annual campaign. Some of the 501(c)(3) organizations specifically excluded above may be eligible for support from other Honda programs, such as our HondaGO Give initiatives

Grant Application – Step 2 (Process and Timing)

Requests for 2018 grant support must be submitted between September 1, 2017 and November 30, 2017.

Please ensure that all sections of the grant application have been completed.

Organizations will be notified of the funding decision by March 30, 2018.

Grant Application – Step 3 (Preparing to Apply)

If your organization meets our eligibility criteria, you will need the following materials in order to complete the grant application:

  • Your organization’s charitable Tax ID/EIN Number
  • IRS determination letter (required to submit)
  • 990 Form (required to submit)
  • Most recent audited financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows)
  • Current annual operating budget for organization (required to submit)
  • Budget related to grant request
  • List of funders from whom you have submitted a request and the status

Grant Application – Step 4 (Applying for a Grant)

The grant request window for 2018 funding is currently open until November 30, 2017.
Grant requests submitted through this website will only be considered by the Honda of America Foundation in Ohio; not other Honda affiliates.

After you submit a completed application, you’ll receive an email from Honda of America Mfg. confirming your grant submission. If you don’t receive this email in response to your submission, please email us at to verify that your grant application was received.

Organizations will be notified of the funding decision by March 30, 2018.
